"The Last Day for Bonnie and Clyde" WEDNESDAY - MAY 23, 1934

Merciful Christian Execution

The great scholasticist St. Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) upheld Augustine's pro-death penalty interpretation in Book II of his Summa Theologica, writing that "if a man be dangerous and infectious to the community ... it is praiseworthy and healthful that he be killed in order to safeguard the common good."

The Death of Imam Ali Mohammed of Yermo, California July 2009

The FBI should investigate the death of a Yermo, Calif. imam as a potential hate crime after the Muslim religious leader's body was discovered inside a burned-down residence this past weekend.
Ali Mohammed, the founder of a Yermo mosque, went to the nearby house on Saturday to clean up hate graffiti written inside before he was killed in an explosion, family members said.
The house was once occupied by Mohammed and his family, but they were forced to move out recently becase of alleged anti-Muslim harassment and prejudice by people in the area. One person suspected of harassing the family was sent to prison in 2008 according to area officials.
Police in the area are calling the explosion and fire "suspicious" but have not yet made a determination as to the cause. An autopsy on Mohammed was expected to be performed on Thursday.
Imam Ali Mohammed was regarded as a respected community leader who had helped establish other mosques in the area.
The mosque founded by the imam and located near the burned house was also the target of an arson attack in 2007.
Nazi swastikas, American symbols and racial epithets were spraypainted on the walls of the home two days before it burned down, according to Ali Mohammed's son. PHOTOS: Mohammed family.
Graffiti written on the walls inside the house before the fire that killed Mohammed reportedly said: "F*** you Arab," "KKK, sand n**er," "go home Arab" with American flags and a Nazi swastika also drawn on the walls.
"My father was a deeply caring person who worked toward building peace, unity and harmony among residents of the High Desert," said Hadie Mohammed, the imam's son. "During this time of immense grief, my family is grateful for the condolences and community support and pray that those who committed this horrific crime will face justice."
The incident is another in a wave potential hate crimes.
Earlier this month a mosque in Cypress, Calif. was vandalized with graffiti, stating "F**k You, "we're going to kill you," and "US Military is going to kill you all."
Police are treating the vandalism at the Cypress mosque as a hate crime.

Steve McNair Murder July-4 2009 Nashville, Tennessee

The girlfriend of former NFL star Steve McNair first shot him in his right temple, then fired three more shots at close range, most likely as he slept, police said Wednesday.McNair, 36, and Sahel Kazemi, 20, were found fatally shot in a condominium in downtown Nashville on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

"McNair was seated on the sofa and likely was asleep, and we believe that Kazemi shot him in the right temple, then shot him twice in the chest, and then shot him a final time in the left temple," Serpas said. Kazemi was actually the aunt of Sepideh Salmani, but they were raised as sisters. Salmani's mother adopted her when she was 9, after Kazemi's mother was killed in their native Iran. Salmani talked to her sister every day, and said she was very happy in her relationship with Steve McNair.New details have been unveiled in the death of former NFL QB Steve McNair last week in Nashville, and most point to a murder-suicide by his mistress. While officials have yet to confirm the theory because she didn't appear to have a motive, that

Dr. George Tiller Killed: Abortion Doctor Shot At Church May-31-2009

George Tiller Killed: Abortion Doctor Shot At Church
WICHITA, Kansas -- Dr. George Tiller, a Kansas doctor whose clinic received national attention for performing late-term abortions, was shot to death as he entered his Wichita church on Sunday.

"Members of the congregation who were inside the sanctuary at the time of the shooting were being kept inside the church by police," the Wichita Eagle reported, "and those arriving were being ushered into the parking lot."

Media reports said the suspected killer fled the scene in a blue Taurus. Police described him as a white male in his 50s or 60s.

Tiller has been among the few U.S. physicians performing late-term abortion, making him a favored target of anti-abortion protesters. He testified that he and his family have suffered years of harassment and threats. His clinic was the site of the 1991 "Summer of Mercy" protests marked by mass demonstrations and arrests. His clinic was bombed in 1985, and an abortion opponent shot him in both arms in 1993.

Tiller's clinic also provided group and individual counseling, as well as chaplain and funeral services for people who were grieving.

The anti-abortion group Operation Rescue, which runs a "Tiller Watch" feature on its website, released a statement condemning the shooting. "We are shocked at this morning's disturbing news that Mr. Tiller was gunned down. Operation Rescue has worked for years through peaceful, legal means, and through the proper channels to see him brought to justice. We denounce vigilantism and the cowardly act that took place this morning. We pray for Mr. Tiller's family that they will find comfort and healing that can only be found in Jesus Christ."

Tiller remained prominent in the news in recent years, in part because of an investigation begun by former Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline, an abortion opponent.

A Wichita city official says a suspect is in custody in the shooting death of late-term abortion provider George Tiller.

The city official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the case. The official did not provide additional details.

An attorney for Tiller, Dan Monnat, says the doctor was shot Sunday as he served as an usher during morning services at Reformation Lutheran Church. Monnat said Tiller's wife, Jeanne, was in the choir at the time of the shooting.

Calling Someone a f****** a******, Are not a Crime A Portsmouth Judge

New Castle police chief James Murphy, left, observes attorney Ryan Russman demonstrating an alleged Electrion Day 2008 altercation, during a trial on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009.

PORTSMOUTH, New Hampshire — Eric Rieseberg did not commit the crime of disorderly conduct by calling someone a f****** a******, District Court Judge Sharon DeVries ruled Friday when she dismissed the charge against the 59-year-old New Castle resident.

Following a two-hour, f-bomb-filled trial, the judge said she would issue a ruling at a later date with regard to a second charge alleging Rieseberg committed the crime of criminal threatening. That charge alleges he put attorney Ryan Russman in fear by “entering” Russman’s “personal space,” yelling and raising his hands “in a manner which appeared to nearly strike (Russman) in the face.”
By all accounts, the controversy occurred Nov. 4, 2008 — Election Day — when Rieseberg was in his 300 Wentworth Road yard removing political signs that were planted there without his permission. Both sides concur that Russman was walking past when he asked Rieseberg what he was doing and Rieseberg responded by asking, “Who the f*** are you?” and making other statements laced with the f-word.

The police chief used racial and sexual-orientation slurs as examples during Friday’s trial, telling the court, “words have meaning.”

The judge ruled that Rieseberg’s Election Day 2008 f-bombs were not a crime.

Pizza Man Saves Abducted Woman May-29-09

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (May 29) — Chris Turner normally wouldn't drive 30 miles into the remote Tennessee mountains just to deliver a pizza. The one time he did, he came upon a scene that drained the color from his face and made him "numb from head to toe" — a woman with her hands tied, silently begging him to call 911.
It was no joke, and Turner, 32, rushed to a nearby house and made that call.
Police say the woman was whisked away from the Atlanta neighborhood she was jogging in by a man who frequented her business. Authorities say he raped her and held her captive inside a cabin. The 24-year-old woman was rescued by Sevier County deputies Tuesday evening because of Turner's quick thinking.

Slick 20-Thief Tricks Restaurant Patrons Hoboken, New Jersey

A man who posed as a waiter made off with $186 in cash from unsuspecting patrons at two restaurants, police said yesterday.

Wearing a button-down dark blue or black shirt, a yellow tie and khaki pants, the spiky-haired 20-something pinched the first check at Hobson's Choice, 77 Hudson St., at about 7:20 p.m. Thursday, police said.

The man approached two women who had recently received their bill and asked if they needed anything else before paying.

The women - a 22-year-old from Secaucus and a 28-year-old from Hoboken - said no and handed him $90 in cash, police said. Waitstaff at Hobson's Choice have no dress code, a Hobson's employee said.

The man next went Margherita's Pizza and Cafe, at 740 Washington St., about 9 p.m. that night, gave his name as "Steve," and asked to be put on the wait-list for a table.

He sat in the waiting area for about 20 minutes and then approached three women and asked them if they were ready to pay, police said.

"He took the money from them and walked straight out of the restaurant," said Anthony Buzzerio, a manager at the restaurant.

The women - a 41-year-old from Manhattan, a 42-year-old from Woodbridge, and a 42-year-old from Scotch Plains - told cops they gave the man $96 for a $66 bill and expected change. The report did not explain why the women paid so much extra, police said.

Margherita's waitstaff wear black polo shirts with the store's logo on the front, Buzzerio said.

"The man was dressed very professionally," Buzzerio said. "Obviously (the customers) were a little confused."

Buzzerio said the restaurant absorbed the cost of the meal. "One we saw that they had put the money on the table - we wouldn't charge the customers twice."

"This is the first time I've come across something like this," Buzzerio added. "Hopefully he gets what's coming to him."
